When you are not in your home country with your mobile phone and use mobile data, that is called roaming. So that you can use your mobile phone abroad, you need to connect your mobile phone in the right operator's network. Normally the mobile phone selects the correct operator automatically, but if you do not get any coverage, you need to select the operator we are partnering with. Below you can find two lists of operators we are partnering with, depending on which type of a mobile subscription you have:
If you have a Mobile subscription, use this list.
If you have a Mobile+ subscription, use this list.
What does roaming cost?
When you are within the EU, you can surf and call with the same price as if you would be in your home country (EU). For example if you have a 10GB data package in your home country, you also have it in the rest of the EU, and your 3000 minutes of free calls are also included within the EU. When you leave the EU, your calls, surfing and SMS have extra costs depending on the country you are visiting.
This is how you search for an operator manually on an iPhone:
1. Open Settings
2. Select Mobile network
3. Select Selection of network
4. Turn off the setting Automatically (wait few seconds while the mobile phone searches for available networks)
5. Select the preferred operator from the list
This is how you search for an operator manually on an Android:
1. Open Settings
2. Select Network & Internet or Connections (depending on the model)
3. Click on Mobile Network
4. Select Network Operators
5. Turn off Select automatically (the mobile phone will now start to search for available networks)
6. Wait a few seconds until a list with different operators is shown
7. Select the preferred operator from the list
How to activate roaming for iPhone and Android respectively.
Tips for roaming:
- Check the costs: Before you travel, check your operator's roaming charges and consider buying a roaming package or a local SIM card solution.
- Turn off mobile data: If you want to avoid high data costs, you can turn off mobile data or use Wi-Fi networks instead.
- Use your Telavox app to call via Wifi to call home to Sweden for free. What you need to do is make outgoing calls via Voip in the Telavox app and call via Wifi. (read more below)
- You can also read more about Roaming and our international services on our website.
- If you want to get away cheaply when it comes to calls made when you are outside the EU, the best way to call is via the VoIP calling method, which works both via our mobile app and also in the desktop app.
Types of roaming:
-
EU roaming: For travel within the EU and EEA, EU legislation has made it easier and cheaper, by introducing "Roam Like at Home." This means you can use your mobile as you do at home, without extra costs for calls, SMS and data.
- International roaming: For trips outside the EU and EEA, however, different prices apply, so the traffic costs regardless of which subscription you have. You will receive an SMS with the costs.
Within the EU
When you leave Sweden and travel within the EU, you have the same prices and data packages as when you are in Sweden. If you have a surfing package larger than 50 GB , the maximum limit for surfing within the EU will still amount to a maximum of 50 GB.
If you have a 5GB data package in Sweden, you have it in e.g. Spain too. In addition, you make free calls home and within the EU. These calls count towards your call pot of 3,000 minutes a month (if you have a Fixed or Mobile licence).
If you choose to call as usual via the mobile network when you are abroad, the number display settings you have set in your account will not be followed, but you will always display your actual mobile number from which you are calling, and call recordings will not work in these CASE.
Some of the advantages of VoIP (calls via computer or mobile app) are precisely that both of these functions work even though you are abroad.
Should you have any concerns with data roaming abroad, we recommend that you check our article Troubleshooting mobile data and roaming.
Outside the EU
If you surf and call when you are outside the EU, you will be billed for every MB you use and for every minute you talk.
If you answer calls or send SMS when you are outside the EU, it is your user account that is charged according to the price list: Sweden Roaming price list.
Foreign data
Surfing abroad ( outside the EU ) is charged per MB, and does not affect your regular data package.
Block for foreign data = €50
When the block is activated, all surfing abroad is blocked for the rest of the month. Unblocked users can surf freely abroad.

Call home for free via Voip:
If you want to get away cheaply when it comes to calls made when you are outside the EU, the best way to call is via the VoIP calling method, which works both via our mobile app and also on the desktop app.
To select and activate VoIP as the default calling method, follow the steps below:
- Log in to the Telavox app on your mobile.
- Go to Settings.
- Click on General.
- Click Dialing method.
- Then select the calling method VoIP.
If you have chosen to be allowed to choose the ringing method for every call, you will get the option for VoIP there as well.
In this way, you call via the internet instead, which means that the call from abroad and home to Sweden costs the same as if you call within Sweden, and if you then have a license that includes 3,000 call minutes (Fixed or Mobile) then the call will be withdrawn from this pot at no extra cost.
However, remember to be connected to a WiFi connection when calling via VoIP, otherwise you will be charged for the international data.
Telavox has a pre-set limit when you have used roaming for €50 so that you can more easily keep track of the cost and when you reach this limit you will receive an SMS to inform you of this and that you will have the opportunity to reset the limit, if your companies allow this. You can then surf for an additional €50.
If you do not know what applies specifically to you, we recommend that you check this with your administrator.
