Troubleshooting mobile data roaming

You can utilize roaming when you travel internationally, this means that your phone will connect to a local operator in the country you are visiting. If you're having trouble using mobile data abroad then this article will go through some useful troubleshooting steps. 

Decision Tree
Make sure mobile data (cellular data) is turned on. 

iPhone

Open Settings > Cellular data > Turn on Cellular data

Keep in mind that settings for Android vastly differ depending on the phone brand. 

Below steps are for Samsung phones: 

Open Settings > Connections > Data usage > Mobile data

Make sure data roaming is turned on. 
Keep in mind that pricing is dependent on which country you are located in. 

iPhone

Open Settings > Cellular data > Cellular data options > Turn on Data roaming

Keep in mind that settings for Android vastly differ depending on the phone brand. 

Below steps are for Samsung phones: 

Open Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Turn on Data roaming

Turn on Airplane mode for about 20 seconds(or restart your phone), wait and let your phone automatically connect to the most optimal network.

Choose another network carrier manually. Keep in mind that not all carriers listed are fully supported or functional. 

iPhone

  1. Open Settings > Cellular > Cellular Network > turn off Automatic
  2. Wait until available networks are listed, which can take a couple of minutes
  3. Choose a different carrier. 
  4. Wait and let your phone connect to the network. 
  5. If you're still having issues, repeat steps 3 and 4, until you've tried a couple of different carriers.

  1. Open Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Network operators > Turn off Choose automatically
  2. Wait until available networks are listed, which can take a couple of minutes
  3. Choose a different carrier. 
  4. Wait and let your phone connect to the network. 
  5. If you're still having issues, repeat steps 3 and 4, until you've tried a couple of different carriers.
